    Artist Abstract: Who Was Robert Campin?

    Robert Campin, also known as the Master of Flémalle, was considered one of the pioneering painters from the Early Netherlandish era during the Northern Renaissance period and the pioneers of what was known as New Realism, which also included the work of Jan van Eyck.

    There are minimal records of his early life and where he was born, but reportedly he was born in 1375 and died in 1444.
